Several model-based inquiry curricula using NetLogo are available and more are under development. These simulations address content areas in the natural and social sciences including biology and medicine, physics and chemistry, mathematics and computer science, and economics and social psychology. It teaches programming concepts using agents in the form of turtles, patches, links and the observer. About NetLogo was designed by Uri Wilensky, in the spirit of the programming language Logo, to be 'low threshold and no ceiling'. It also comes with the Models Library, a large collection of pre-written simulations that can be used and modified. NetLogo is a programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) for agent-based modeling. NetLogo has extensive documentation and tutorials. This makes it possible to explore the connection between the micro-level behavior of individuals and the macro-level patterns that emerge from their interaction. The Ant foraging model is available here. Modellers can give instructions to hundreds or thousands of “ agents” all operating independently. Since its beginning in 1999 by Wilensky, Netlogo has become a very popular tool in simulation. NetLogo is particularly well suited for modelling complex systems developing over time.
